Joseph

Matthew 1 explains to us how Mary and Joseph came to know and understand that Jesus was coming to earth.  What it doesn’t help us with is an understanding of how saying yes to God can radically and supernaturally change everything about our lives.  This week’s sermon will help you understand how to wear the new clothes Jesus brings.

Matthew 1:18-25, Ephesians 2:8-10

Discussion topics

  1. Read Matthew 1:18-25 together as a group. Put yourself in the place of Joseph. How would you feel? What would you have done in his place? Where is the place where you can connect with God in this story?
  2. In the movie, and in the life of Joseph, we see that when you put on the “Santa Suit”, or another way to say it, when you say yes to Jesus, thing about your life change. What has been the greatest shock or revelation in your personal life after you said yes to Jesus? (What changed the most about your person?)
  3. Pastor said on Sunday, “You believe that Jesus is your Savior… but do you allow him to be your Lord?”. Where in your life do you NOT allow him to be Lord?
  4. Read and discuss the following two sets of scriptures in light of the sermon topic this past Sunday.

Ephesians 2:8-10 reads: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Ephesians 4:22-24 reads:
“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
