One You
You are unique. The complexity of that concept can get lost in the simplicity of the statement. You have a fingerprint that’s distinctive, an eye pattern that is unlike anyone else. Your DNA is yours alone. Let’s be honest, if you have heard this thought once, you have heard it a million times. But, are you aware that uniqueness doesn’t stop at your physical make up? This week we explore the importance of you knowing there is only One You and how the comparison game can destroy you.
1 Samuel 10:20-22, 1 Samuel 16:7
Discussion topics
- Read 1 Samuel 10:20-22 and discuss. The day that Saul was to be anointed king he was found among the baggage. Why is it comfortable for us to stay with our baggage? Why does our baggage keep us from the future that God is calling us towards? What baggage do you hide among?
- 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart”.” What does this scripture say to you and how you should govern your life?
- We see in 1 Samuel 18 how King Saul, yes KING SAUL, became jealous of David because Saul compared his on field battle victories to David. Saul allowed other’s opinions to alter and influence the way he saw himself. Take time to talk about comparison. Is comparison a good thing or bad thing? Why?
- On Sunday, Pastor David said that comparison only works if you internalize it. Meaning, if you compare who you are today to who you were a week ago, a month ago, a year ago. Do you agree or disagree with this statement and why? If you agree with it, then how can you implement it in your life?
