Simplicity
The living of a minimalistic or simplistic lifestyle flies in the face of American culture. What if the culture of “more” adds to our daily stresses and worries? Look at the words of Jesus out of Matthew 6. We cannot serve both God and money.

Discussion topics
This week’s NavGroup questions will be a little different than normal. We will be using a workbook that corresponds with the book that this series is based off of, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer. You can download a free copy of the PDF workbook from this website: https://johnmarkcomer.com/blog/unhurry .
Please take time to read the portion of the workbook we are covering. Do as many exercises as possible that the book suggests. You may not be able to change all the areas but any changes you make will help in your journey towards an unhurried lifestyle.
- Read Matthew 6:19-25 and discuss how worry is tied together with the subject of storing up treasures in heaven and the god of money. In your own words, describe why you cannot serve both God and money.
- Is there an aspect of this sermon that really stood out to you or challenged your thinking? Think about marketing, propaganda, and/or personal wants and desires?
- Gregg Easterbrook in The Progress Paradox: How Life Gets Better While People Feel Worst, said, “adjusting for population growth, ten times as many people in Western nations today suffer from “uni-polar” depression, or unremitting bad feeling without a specific cause, than did half a century ago. Americans and Europeans have ever more of everything except happiness.” Do you agree or disagree and why?
