God With Us – Joseph

This morning Pastor David looks at the Christmas story through the eyes of Joseph, Jesus’ earthly father.Scripture: Matthew 1:18-25 ; Matthew 2:13-23

Discussion Topics:

1. Read Matthew 1:18-19. If you were Joseph and Mary just told you that she was pregnant with God’s baby, and she was still a virgin, how would you have responded?
2. Read Matthew 1:21. We see that Mary was giving birth to Jesus so that “he will save his people from their sins”. Metaphorically speaking, is there something in your life you are pregnant with, given by God, so that those around you will be saved?
3. Read Matthew 1:24-25. I think we all can agree that if an angel showed up to collaborate Mary’s story, even you would believe her story. But Pastor David explained, according to Deuteronomy 22:15-17, by showing the bedroom sheets it was possible to show that Mary was a virgin. But Joseph chose to sacrifice his reputation for the sake of God’s word. What does this look like in our life?
4. Read Matthew 2:13-15. Joseph responded to God’s word without hesitation. When you hear God calling you to something or away from something, do you respond without hesitation? If you do not, why?
