Holy Spirit Has a Job
One thing that the scriptures make clear is that God has specific jobs. If you were asked what job, or what function, did Jesus play, you would probably be able to answer that without a problem. But, what if you were asked what job does the Holy Spirit have? This week we look at the specific job that the Holy Spirit has today and how this divine purpose draws the presence of God to human beings.
John 16:12-13, John 16:8-11
Discussion topics
1. Over the last week or so you have been reading the Bible using the SOAP method (Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer). How is this working for you? Is there an aspect that is helping you? Was there a particular scripture or tool that has really spoken to you?
2. Read John 16:12-13 and ask this question, “Has there been a time in your life where you can remember the Holy Spirit speaking to you”?
3. Read John 16:8-11 and talk about the three things that the Holy Spirit does for us as our Advocate. Do you view these as positives or negatives? What freedom can you find today from understanding the truth behind this scripture?
- He is coming to tell you your need for a savior.
- Once you accept, he convinces you that you are in right standing with God.
- Now that you are in this place, Satan has been stripped and has no authority over you.
4. What is keeping you from recognizing Holy Spirit as God and allowing him to be fully active in your life?
