Anger

Have you ever been angry?  Has your anger ever led you to acting in a way you regret, saying words you wish you could take back, or producing emotions that you can never imagine allowing out? We all have. This week we look at anger and the biblical way to manage this emotion and how it can move us towards life and not death.

Genesis 4:3-13, James 1:19

Discussion topics

1.  Read Genesis 4:3-13 about Cain and Abel through the lens of anger and the results of anger unmanaged.  What stands out to you?

2. Time for total honesty…on a scale from 1-10 (1 being rare and 10 being red faced, yelling at the top of your lungs, happens way too often) what number would you rank your “anger issues”?

3. James 1:19 says, “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry,”.  Do you think these three steps will help with your anger?  Why?

4. Take time to read and pray the following:
Psalm 139

22. I have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies.

23. Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.

24. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

When you asked God to search you, what did he point out?  Where do you need God to clean you out?
