Gossip
Let’s talk about gossip. Or rather, let’s discover how to not gossip. Afterall, gossip is a divisive and destructive communication approach that sees the wrong people saying the wrong thing working towards the wrong end. Instead, let’s take the next step towards becoming the right people saying the right things working towards the right end.

Discussion topics
1. Proverbs 18:21 says, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit – you choose.” We discovered Sunday that gossip falls into the poison category and is destructive in nature. Have you found this to be true? What kind of destruction have you seen in your own life?
2. Read the scripture passages below and discuss how this applies to our faith today.
James 1:26. NLT If you claim to be religious, but don’t control your tongue, you are fooling yourself, and your religion is worthless.
James 3:9-10 NIV With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth comes praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
3. Ephesians 4:29 offers the counter to gossip when it says, “Let no corrupt talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” How do you think this is practically applied and lived?
4. Share options with the group on how to respond when you find yourself in an environment where gossip is taking place.
