Discipleship Means Following

Imagine if a stranger walked up to you and said, “Come follow me”. What would make a successful fisherman leave his business? How could a tax collector that has already turned his back on the Jewish people now position himself to serve those very same people? This week we explore what made these men follow Jesus.

Matthew 4:18-22, Luke 5:4-5

Discussion topics

  1. On Sunday Pastor said that our faith in Jesus started with information about Jesus. Faith isn’t supposed to be blind, but rather informed. Take time to share your salvation story with your NavGroup. Share what “information” you heard that made you want to follow Jesus.
  2. Luke 5 says, “4. When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”  5. Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” What do you feel like God has been calling you to do lately? What have you been holding back from doing or committing to even though you have “heard him say so”?
  3. On Sunday Pastor said, “Being a sinner doesn’t disqualify you from following Jesus, in fact, it is a prerequisite.” This is a hard question to ask, but it only takes one person to be open and the rest of your NavGroup will follow. What is the one sin, one place of regret, that you think disqualifies you from being used by God?
