Proverbs – An Introduction

Seeking more wisdom in your life? Pastor David opens our series with an introduction to the Book of Proverbs. 1. In 1 Kings 3 Solomon asked for and received wisdom as a gift from God. In your own words, what does being wise mean? Read Proverbs 8:10-11 to see Solomon’s perspective on the price of wisdom.
2. Discuss the definition of a proverb that Pastor David provided on Sunday.
   “A proverb is always a parable expressed in a brief pithy sentence, a vivid and striking speech, a rapidly drawn picture…. It has a clearly recognizable purpose, that of quickening and apprehension of the real as distinct from the wished for; compelling the hearer or reader to form a judgment on himself, his situation or his conduct.”
3. Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” What does it mean to fear the Lord?
