Hope in the Midst of Heartache
What drives your decisions when temptation comes your way? How do you respond when your faith and integrity are tested? In this week’s message, Finding Hope in the Midst of Heartache, we explore Joseph’s encounter with temptation and betrayal while serving in Potiphar’s house. Joseph faced overwhelming trials—sold into slavery, falsely accused, and imprisoned—yet he remained faithful to God through it all. Join us as we uncover how Joseph’s unwavering commitment to God brought blessings even in the midst of hardship and how we, too, can stand firm in the face of temptation and suffering.
Genesis 39:7-20
Discussion topics
- Joseph resisted the advances of Potiphar’s wife by saying, “How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9). What steps can we take to stand firm in moments of temptation, especially when the consequences are high? Can you share a time when you faced a temptation or difficult decision? How did your faith play a role in your response?
- Despite facing false accusations and imprisonment, Genesis 39:21 says, “The LORD was with Joseph.” How have you seen God’s presence in your own moments of suffering or hardship? How does Jesus’ suffering help us to understand this?
- Joseph ran from temptation when it was overwhelming (Genesis 39:12). What does it look like for us to “run” from the things that might lead us into sin today?
- ACTION STEP- Take time this week to identify an area where you may be tempted to compromise or feel overwhelmed. Pray and ask for God’s strength to help you stand firm and trust Him, just as Joseph did.
