Saul

In the Old Testament Saul is identified by God and anointed by Samuel to become the first king of Israel. However, through Saul’s life and reign we see the problems and destructive nature of insecurities that are never addressed. But like Saul, are there places of insecurity that need to be addressed in our own lives? And how do we overcome personal insecurity? Join us as we journey together through Saul’s story to discover the hope of insecurities removed and promises redeemed.

1. You may know a little about Saul, a lot about Saul, or something in between. Based on the parts of the story we focused on during Sunday’s message, did something different or new stand out to you? Did you have a question about some part of his life that we discussed?

2. Pastor Aaron said that insecurity creeps in when, instead of trusting God’s word as enough, we place greater value in the opinions of others and even ourselves. Have you found this to be true in your own life? Can you share an example with your group?

3. Building off of question 2, another way to identify places of insecurity is to ask this – where in your life is God not King? So, are there places in your life now where you want to make God king but insecurity is ruling instead?

4. Pastor Aaron offered this challenge to us this week – In your place(s) of insecurity, discover instead what God’s word has to say and offer as security for you. So what scriptures speak hope and promise to your insecurity? Can you offer scriptures as encouragement to your fellow NavGroup members for an insecurity they shared with the group?
