This week, we continue in our series, Built To Connect.  We examine the idea that we are Created for Connection, and we will explore this subject within the story of Zacchaeus. Often told as an old Sunday school favorite, Zacchaeus’ story has truths for us today, illustrating how disconnection can lead us to isolation and desperation. However, even in that place of isolation, Jesus still sees us, knows us, and calls us to reconnect with Him and with our community.
Scripture: Luke 19:1-10

Discussion Topics:

  1. We mentioned that Zacchaeus felt isolated and disconnected because of his position, his decisions, and his limitations (limitations could be physical, emotional, real, perceived, etc.). Which of these resonates the most with you? In what area of your life do you feel isolated/disconnected?
  2. Zacchaeus showed us that he was so desperate to see Jesus that he was willing to disgrace himself – taking on the posture and behaviors of a child – by climbing the tree. Where is an area in your life where you want to be so desperate to see Jesus that you’re willing to take on the posture and behaviors of a child-like faith?
  3. We discussed how Jesus invites us to reconnect: first, with Him, secondly, with who we truly are, third, with our family/relationships, and finally, with our community. What is a place where you could work on reconnecting? What’s one practical way you can begin that reconnection this week?
