Challenging Miracle

This week we are looking at Herod, Zechariah and Mary to see how each one responded when the word of the Lord came about the miraculous birth of Jesus.

Luke 1:18-20, Luke 1:34-38, Matthew 2:16

Discussion topics

1. Pastor kept saying the phrase, “The mind justifies what the heart has chosen” this past Sunday.  He paralleled this phrase with how Herod, Zechariah, and Mary responded to the announcement of Jesus’ birth.

a. Who are you most like in this story?  Herod (how can I sabotage the words of God), Zechariah (how can I discredit the words of God), or Mary (how can I align with the words of God)

b. When you hear the phrase “The mind justifies what the heart has chosen”, what do you think about and how does this apply to our lives in this area and other areas?

2. What we practice we get good at.  How can you tend your heart towards the miraculous?  How do you tend to your heart for the things of God to occur in your life?

3. Who is someone in your life right now that you think God is calling you to give the greatest gift ever …… the gift of Jesus?  What does it take for you to invite them to church this Christmas season?
