This week we focus on the Shepherds in the field tending their sheep the night Jesus was born. Why were the words God spoke to them were so meaningful?

1. What is a memory you have of hearing or singing a Christmas carol?
2. When you read the story of Jesus’ birth, from announcement, to conception, to presentation at the Temple (Luke 1-2), what part of the story makes you stop in wonder? What part of this narrative makes you see the miracle of Christmas?
3. Pastor David laid out the timeline of when the Temple was originally built and how it survived to the time of Jesus and why the preservation of it was important. Animal sacrifice was a key reason until Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice. He went on to explain how God spoke to the Shepherds in a language meaningful to them, by saying “a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes”. What truth did you hear in this explanation?
4. Who is someone in your life today that needs the present/gift of Jesus during this holiday season? Take time as a group to pray that God will give you the gift to speak their language.
