Negativity

This week, we continue in our series, I Want To Quit, as we examine the topic of Negativity. Join us as we unpack many of the subversive ways Negativity affects us, our relationships, our health, our money, our work — and ultimately, our future. We’ll explore a vicious cycle of negativity that can easily be self-perpetuating in our lives. We will also unpack a formula found in Apostle Paul’s letter to the Philippians that will empower us to break this cycle and aim toward a new way of living.

Philippians 4:4-9

Discussion topics

1. Where in your life are you consuming too much negativity?
– In your personal interactions (ie: negative people)?
– In your entertainment choices?
– In your news consumption?
– In your social media?
What negativity are you feeding on?

2. Looking at the 8 Dimensions of Wellness, which ones do you feel are:
(a) Your healthiest areas, and
(b) Your areas that need some positive attention?
Another way to ask this: do you have positive moderation or too much imbalance?
– Emotional? (balance and mental health)
– Physical (fitness? nutrition? flexibility?)
– Social (inner circle of relationships -vs- larger social circle)
– Occupational (work)
– Financial (debt? retirement? investments? etc.?)
– Environmental (clutter? cleanliness? peace-vs-conflict?)
– Spiritual (relationship and connection to Father/Son/Spirit?)
– Intellectual (are you intentionally learning and growing?)

3. What “Bad” target (ie: bad habit/behavior/belief) are you trying to break that is causing you some form of negativity (whether emotional, financial, physical, etc.)? Rather than trying to break the bad habit, what is a more positive target at which you can aim? What is the Positive Replacement Behavior that you can simply start building instead?
