Selfishness

Are you selfish?  Do you know someone who is selfish?  Do you even know the definition of selfish?  Selfish according to the dictionary is lacking consideration for others; concerned chiefly with one’s own personal profit or pleasure.  With that definition in mind, can’t we all admit that we have some level of selfish behaviors in our lives?  So, how do we combat a selfish lifestyle?  We focus, or aim, for the opposite – generosity.  Join us this week as we gain to understand what a generous life looks like.

Discussion topics

1. What are some ways that you are selfish?  Another way to engage this question might be to ask, “How does it feel when you need someone’s help—but they act selfishly”?

2. How, or why, do you think being selfish could be a sin?

3. The temptation to be selfish is a natural and common temptation. Though it’s common, it’s still important that we fight this temptation so it doesn’t lead to sin. What are some practical ways this week that you can focus on helping other people?

4. What does it mean to live a life of generosity?
