Money is the Root of All Evil

Have you ever heard someone say, “The Bible says…”and then they go on to quote some obscure scripture, or maybe a well known one, and everything inside of you asks, “Does the Bible really say that”?  This week we kick off a series where we look at the most misquoted and misunderstood scriptures.  We will find out if money is the root of evil and if God wants all Christians to be poor?

1 Timothy 6:6-19, Haggai 1:5-10

Discussion topics

1. Before this message, how would you rate your love of money on a scale of 1 to 10? What impact did this message have on how you would rate yourself now?

2. What are some life experiences that have influenced your relationship to money?  Who helped form your view of money?Were they good or bad with their money?

3. Read 1 Timothy 6:6-19 aloud together. Which part convicts you? Share why it sticks out to you.

4. Define your relationship with your finances and possessions. What could be a next step toward breaking up with your stuff?

5. BONUS – Read out loud Haggai 1:5-10 and discuss which part convicts you the most? Share why.
