Anchor to Victory with Dallas Amsden

We are continuing in our series, “Words of Our Worship,” and this week, we explore the song Battle Belongs so that we can Anchor to Victory. We dive into the story of Jehosophat and how the Lord brought the people through a great victory –– not with traditional weapons of warfare or swords and shields –– but with the weapon of worship. Journey with us as we learn the keys to victory against internal and external battles we face, and get a deeper understanding behind the theology in the songs we sing.

2 Chronicles 20:1-30

Discussion topics

1. Not everyone considers themselves a “singer” and yet worship is an emotional expression of praise to God and is crucial to the Christian walk. What are some other ways that you can “worship” even if you don’t think you have the greatest voice?

2. Dallas talked about “resolving to respond” with worship rather than “react” with our flesh. What are some areas of your life where you can be emotionally triggered and where you can commit to “resolving to respond.”

3. In 2 Chronicles, the people were told several times, “Do not be afraid or discouraged.” Dallas asked everyone to consider, “Where do you stand –– in fear and discouragement OR in faith and encouragement?” When battles arise in our lives, what are some ways that we can shift our perspective and our thinking to stand more firmly IN-courage (encourage) and in faith? Discuss practical ways to build personal faith.

4. Have your group listen to the song “Battle Belongs” (Phil Wickham) and discuss the truths you heard in the song.  If your groups would be comfortable with signing together, you may want to consider a time of worship to this song too?
