What Was He Thinking?

If you were on your way to imminent death, what would you be focused on?  How would you be acting?  In Mark 10, Jesus was taking his final trip into Jerusalem before his death, burial, and resurrection.  We get a glimpse into his thoughts and intentions when he comes face-to-face with blind Bartimaeus.  Jesus was a man moved with compassion then and today He is still moving with compassion towards us.

Mark 10:46-52, Matthew 20:34

Discussion topics

1. I want to encourage you and your group to spend a few minutes celebrating, sharing, and remembering the good things that God has done so far this year:
a. We just finished the forty-day challenge… How did you do and what did you learn/hear?
b. We just finished Good Friday, the Easter Egg Outreach and Easter… What did you see or experience during this Holy Week?
c. We finished up Holy Spirit 101… What about you, your faith, or your Holy Spirit empowerment has changed during those six weeks?

2. In Mark 10:46 it reads, “Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging.
Do you find it interesting that we learn Bartimaeus’ label before we learn his name? What label has the world given you that is contrary to the name Jesus has given you?

3. Matthew 20:34 says, “Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they followed Him.” Is there a place in your life where you have seen Jesus “moved with compassion” and you know He touched you? (some testimonies from questions #1 might apply here.)
Where in your life have you been calling out to Jesus and you need his compassion to hear you?

4. This past Sunday, we saw the power of evangelism and personal invitations.  Who has God placed in your heart to pray for, connect with, and invite to know Jesus?
