This week we close out our series on Next Steps. We have discussed what it means to “Lean In” to community, and what it means to “Take Hold” of the promise. Today, we explore the subject of what it means to truly “Embrace New” when it comes to our identity in Christ. Using 1 Peter 2:9-10, we will discover what it means to identify with who we are called to be – a chosen people and royal priesthood – in every area of our lives: at home, at work, and socially.

Scripture: I Peter 2:9-10

Discussion Topics:

  1. We talked a lot about embracing our new identity in Christ. What are some ways you might still be embracing your old identity either by what you think, say, or do? And what might be a good way to shift those words and actions based on your new identity (ie: “I am an addict” versus “I was an addict, but now I am free!”)
  2. In 1 Peter 2:9-10, we talked about what it means to be “Royal priests” – aka: Guardians of the Holy. What does it mean for you to be a priest in every area of your life? Your home? Your relationships? Your finances? At your work? Your community? Etc.?
  3. As a “Royal priest” and guardian of the holy Grace of Jesus, how should you respond to such condemnation, criticisms, insults, behaviors, etc. in public settings and especially in places like social media? Can you think of some times where you responded correctly or incorrectly when you felt attacked?
